Hints and tips

The default structure view is set to “depth limited view” which drills down as far as:

  • For Bills – section level

  • For SI/SSIs – regulation/article/rule level

  • For Amendments – amendment instruction level

If you are experiencing performance issues with a larger bill, it can

helpful to turn off the structure view and only open it if you need to do some structure manipulation

  • Hiding the structure view does not turn it off, you will need to use the on/off toggle at the top of the structure view.

You can also use the structure view to move provisions around – see

Black text indicates where the cursor is currently located in the Editor view

To select one or more provisions using the structure view to perform certain actions (e.g. renumber, delete or wrap) use the keyboard shortcut ‘Ctrl + mouse click’).  The selected provisions will be highlighted in the structure view to show that they have been selected.

  • You can only select contiguous, sibling provisions

  • If you select a higher-level provision it will automatically select all its descendants

  • If another user is editing the same document as you, a black padlock will appear against the provision(s) they are working on, signalling that they are locked and you cannot edit them.

  • If you are editing the document, the provision(s) that you are updating will display grey pencil icons to indicate that you have them locked for editing.

Newly inserted provisions will be shown with a grey asterisk.

Hovering the mouse cursor over these lock icons will reveal a tool tip explaining who has the lock and since when.

Clicking on a provision in the structure view will jump to that provision in the Editor, highlighting it in the Editor view, including all its descendent provisions e.g. if you select a section that contains subsections and paragraphs, they will all be highlighted in the Editor when you click on the section in the structure view.
