Introduction

You can add and update made, laid and coming-into-force dates in an SI using the Update Dates dialogue box.

The dates block of an SI is shown highlighted in blue in the Editor.

How to update Dates

To add or update dates, start clicking When you first create an SI document it will look something like this:

That will bring up the Update Dates dialogue box. This shows a table containing a row for each date entry:

  • Type can be one of four types:

    • Made

    • Laid

    • Coming into force, and

    • Other

  • The Description contains the text that will show at the left of the date block.

  • The Time/Date will be shown at the right side of the date block

How to update an existing Date

To update an existing date in the dates block:

  1. Click on the dates block to open the Update Dates dialogue box.

  2. Click on the pencil icon next to the date you wish to update.

  3. Make required changes and click

  2. When you have finished updating the Date information, click

If preferred, you can type the Date and/or Time, rather than use the drop-down calendar/schedule. Lawmaker will then automatically format the Date and Time in the required style.

How to add a Date

To add a new date to the dates block:

  1. Click on the dates block to open the Update Dates dialogue box.

  2. Click on the Add Date button.

  3. Select a date type from the drop-down list.

  4. Select a date description from the drop-down list - this is the text that will show in the SI. If the option required is not in the drop down list, select ‘Other’ and type the description.

  5. Select a date and time (if required).

  2. When you have finished adding dates, click Save.

How to delete Date information

To delete a particular date:

  1. Click on the dates block to open the Update Dates dialogue box.

  2. Click on the

Hints and tips

You can overwrite the date or time in the input field if you find this easier to change than the date or time picker

Lawmaker will format the date or date and time when it is inserted into the Preface according to the approved format

How to change the order of dates within the dates block

To change the order of dates:

  1. Click on the dates block to open the Update Dates dialogue box.

  2. Click on the date you want to move and drag it to a different position in the table.

Note

Dates in your SI should always appear in Chronological Order. However if you change the dates by inserting or deleting a date, Lawmaker will not automatically reorder them. You will need to manually change the order.

Coming into force dates can have range of different forms, sometimes not including a date and sometimes spanning multiple entries in the date block.

Coming into force on dates to be determined (SIP para 3.10.4.8)

To add a date entry specifying that the SI comes into force in accordance with specific provisions or similar:

  1. Click Add in the dates dialogue box to add a new date or click on the edit icon next to an existing coming into force date (see above instructions above).

  2. In the Type drop-down menu, select 'Coming into Force’.

  3. In the Date Description drop-down menu, select “Coming into force in accordance with ***”.

  4. Update the text in the Date Description as appropriate, e.g. so it reads “Coming into force in accordance with regulation 1”.

  5. Leave the Date and Time fields blank.

  6. Click Add.

  7. Click Save to ensure all changes to the dates block are saved.

More than one coming into force date (SIP para 3.10.4.7)

To add multiple Coming into Force dates, as in the example above:

  1. Click Add in the dates dialogue box to add a new date, or click on the edit icon next to an existing coming into force date (see instructions above).

  2. In the Type drop-down menu, select 'Coming into Force’.

  3. In the Description drop-down menu, select ‘Coming into Force’.

  4. Leave Date and Time blank.

  5. Click Add (or Update, if editing an existing coming into force date entry).

  6. For each specific coming into force date:

    1. Click Add in the dates dialogue box to add a new date.

    2. In the Type drop-down menu, select 'Coming into Force’.

    3. In the Description drop-down menu, select ‘Other’ and then enter the provisions, e.g. “Paragraphs 1 and 2 (except paragraph 1(2))”. Alternatively, depending on the preferred style, select ‘For the purposes of’ and complete the text with the appropriate provisions.

    4. Update the Date and Time fields as appropriate.

    5. Click Add.

  7. Click Save to ensure all changes to the dates block are saved.
