Introduction
The editor includes a find & replace function which allows you to find and replace content in the current document subject to acquiring necessary locks.
How to open ‘Find/Replace’
- Click on ‘Edit > Find’ in the upper toolbar or user Ctrl + F keyboard shortcut
- In the pop-up box:
- Type the text that you want to find into the ‘Search for’ field
- The number of results that are found in the document are show on the right side in this field and the results are highlighted in the editor
- Optionally type the text that you want to replace the test you entered in the ‘Search for’ field
- Optionally select the ‘Match case’ checkbox and the search operation will only find results if the exact letter case entered in the ‘Search for’ field is found
- Optionally, selection the ‘Whole words’ checkbox and the search operation will only find if the entire word or words entered in the ‘Search for’ field is found
- To replace text one at a time:
- Use the Find Next/Find Previous buttons to go to the next occurrence of the result (you can also use the down arrow and up arrow on your keyboard) and click on Replace button to perform the replace operation on the current result with the text specified in the ‘Replace with’ field
- To replace all text in one go:
- Click on the Replace All button to perform the replace operation on all occurrences of the text specified in the ‘Replace with’ field.
- Type the text that you want to find into the ‘Search for’ field
Hints and tips
- The ‘Find/Replace’ pop-up window can be moved by clicking on the grey banner at the top and moving it to your desired location. It is also resizable by clicking on the bottom-right corner and resizing it according to your preferred view.
- If you select content in the editor and then invoke the Find/Replace window, the Search for field will automatically be populated with the selected content.
- The Match case and whole words options are persistent in your current editing session, so it remembers your selection from the last search.
- The highlights for the results in the editor are persistent while the Find/Replace window is open. When you close the window, the highlights disappear.
- The Replace button won’t work unless you are selecting the text with the Next and Previous buttons even though the number of results adjust as though the text is being replaced.
