Summary of feature improvement suggestion

Use the same numbering logic when assigning numbers to new amendments in a Lords Marshalled Lists that is currently used when assigning numbers to clauses/sections in a Bill (instead of the simplified logic currently used where it inserts “#” if it can’t work out the number)

For example:

  • Between 1 and 1A, the number should be 1ZA
  • Between 162Y and 162Z, the numbers would be 162YA, 162YB etc.

More information on the rule is set out here: https://lawmaker.scrollhelp.site/help/live/old-annex-6-auto-assign-numbering-rule

Original user description

Hi all - I’ve mentioned this previously but we need to improve the numbering logic for amendments. If you take a look at the Energy amendments (https://lawmaker.legislation.gov.uk/amendments/3ab02e1a-e981-4831-9ee0-7382062e8ae9) you can see we’ve got into some crazy numbering.

That wouldn’t be so bad if it was one or two numbers, but somebody had to manually update the numbers on around 60 amendments on a long ML because LM couldn’t add them (and took around 40 minutes or so). I don’t think this is quite an acceptable situation.

I don’t think this is a bug, but I don’t think it is a feature request either. It’s something that just isn’t working like it should. I’ve never really been sure why LM can’t handle complex numbering (but also struggles with ZA and ZB too). Thanks.
