Introduction

It is possible to download a zip file containing the document version’s XML as well as PDF if there was one stored with the document version.  The main purpose of this facility is to allow users to manually upload the document onto the National Archive’s publishing system before the electronic submission is worked on in a future release.

How to download a document bundle

  1. Select  Download ZIP file from the drop-down menu on the document version you want to generate a ZIP file from
  2. On the pop-up box, leave the checkbox “Resolve dates in XML” ticked if the download is destined for a third party e.g. the National Archive’s publishing system and click Download button
  3. The system will generate a ZIP file containing the document’s XML and a PDF (if there is a PDF saved against the chosen document version) and save it in your local download folder.

Hints and tips

  • The zip folder can be uploaded directly onto the National Archives Publishing System when a bill has been given Royal Assent.
  • If you download a ZIP file from a working version, a snapshot version will be created, labelled “Downloaded” which will allow you to access the document version in future should you need to return to that exact version of the XML.
  • If your document contained an image, the image will be included in the ZIP file
  • The National Archive’s publishing tool will need a PDF included in the ZIP file.  To ensure there is a PDF included, click on the download ZIP file button on a PDF snapshot version.
